Faculty
Regular Faculty
Carmel Levitan, Chair
Professor, Cognitive Science
B.A., Stanford University; Ph.D., UC Berkeley
Carmel Levitan studies multisensory interactions, researching how the different senses integrate information.
Advisory Committee
Renee Baran
Professor, Biology
B.A., Macalester College; Ph.D., UC Berkeley
Prof. Baran studies neuron development, including microtubule-based mechanisms that underlie axon outgrowth and synapse formation.
Patricia Cabral
Associate Professor, Psychology
B.A., M.A., Cal State Northridge; Ph.D., UC Merced
Patricia Cabral鈥檚 research interests are centered on health-risk behaviors among adolescents and young adults, and how they contribute to differences in health outcomes across racial/ethnic groups. Read her SA国际传媒 Story profile.
Nicholas Grebe
Assistant Professor, Psychology
B.A. University of Colorado, Boulder; M.S., Ph.D. University of New Mexico
Nicholas Grebe's research interests span the fields of psychology, evolutionary biology, and anthropology.
Stephanie Nelli
Assistant Professor, Cognitive Science
B.A., UNC Chapel Hill; Ph.D., UC San Diego
Stephanie Nelli uses neuroscience and machine learning to study the computational principles underlying rapid learning and flexible decision-making.
Joseph Schulz
Professor, Biology
B.S., Indiana University; Ph.D., UC San Diego
Prof. Schulz studies the biology of cone snails, venomous marine gastropods whose peptide neurotoxins are highly selective modulators of ion channels and cell surface receptors.
Aleksandra (Sasha) Sherman
Associate Professor, Cognitive Science
B.A., Rutgers University; Ph.D., Northwestern University
Professor Sherman鈥檚 interdisciplinary research program applies mixed-methods to investigate how the interaction of sensory, cognitive, and emotional factors influence human perception, focusing primarily on how we experience the arts.
Zachary Silver
Assistant Professor, Psychology
B.A., Illinois Wesleyan University; Ph.D., Yale University
Zachary Silver's research and teaching interests involve how animals learn from and about humans.
Kerry Thompson
Professor, Biology
B.A., M.A., Ph.D., UCLA
Professor Thompson鈥檚 research explores the causes and potential treatments for neurological diseases such as epilepsy and Parkinson鈥檚 disease. This includes histology, pharmacology, genetic engineering, and transplantation. We use models that have included a combination of in vivo and in vitro techniques. Currently we are focused on stem cell fusion, and the use of optogenetics.
Kevin Urstadt
Resident Associate Professor, Cognitive Science
B.A., Rutgers; M.A., Ph.D., University of California, Riverside
Kevin Urstadt's research interests include functional neuroanatomy, neuroscience of addiction, and neuro-circuitry of hunger.
