John Parke Young Initiative on the Global Political Economy

The Young Initiative supports students and faculty interested in the global political economy by funding research, internships, and conference travel that prepare them to lead in an interdependent world.

Our mission is to help envision alternatives to the status quo in the global political economy (GPE) that better serve the public good. We approach GPE as an interdisciplinary field that examines who gains and who loses from global economic arrangements and how those arrangements change, with attention to distributional questions that conventional approaches often leave underexplored.

We do this by:

  • Supporting global research by students and faculty and bringing it back into campus intellectual conversation.
  • Partnering with organizations in Los Angeles, working alongside local actors to improve policy through international norms and academic partnerships.
  • Joining global academic and policy conversations across disciplines and regions.
